I scored a 32(which is about 2130 in sat) on the act, but my school grades are "Meh", is there a chance that i might not get a good enough financial aid because of my grades? Also, what are my chances of getting a full scholarship? If i submit my application sooner, does it increase my chances?
Thanks!

Dear all,

As the subject of this thread suggests, I would like to ask you some questions about moving off-campus - hopefully, the answers to these questions (if provided) will be valuable to many.

What I am basically interested in is the procedure:

1) I need a permission. There are a number of ways to attain it. Which is the most comfortable one? If we assume that a medical condition is such a way, what "sickness" should a person "have" to persuade doctor Daskalov to give him/her a off-campus permit right away?

2) When the procedure should be starter? For instance, if I want to move off-campus next semester, should I start right now or should I come couple of days earlier next semester and start the procedure then?

3) I have to pay next semester's dorm fee before course registration. Will they refund me next semester, once I abandon Skaptos and move off-campus?

Thanks in advance!

Quote:Hello my friend. Don't worry about asking any Q, I'll try to answer.

It's probably going to be different for me, but what I enjoyed most is
that I was in Bulgaria. I wanted to stay here. The second thing is
that the quality of education, as cliched as it sounds, is quite high.
Uncomparable for this part of the world, and comparable to the high
standards in the West - US & Europe.

Depends on what you study, ofc. I was studying economics, and I was
accepted to one of the top schools in the UK for postgraduate study,
and I think it was quite OK to give you the preparation and
confidence. OFC, you need to put much much additional work in, if you
want to be competitive to a western hard-working graduate, but AUBG
gives you the chance, that is sure.

It's quite peaceful in Blago, very beautiful, nice scenary, good
people, nice night life if you enjoy that. Very close friends you
make. Good professors - you keep in tuoch with them, they are
basically not very busy as the town is small, and this makes them
predisposed to talking to students and going out with them, etc. Few
boundaries there. I have several friends from my prev. professors,
some of them I keep in touch with. I graduated last year.

Cons: depends what you compare it with. Tell me more abuot what you
awnt to do, and I'll tel lyou more. Possibly one of the cons in terms
of life is that it's a small uni, so basically everything is repeated
year after year, you might get bored with it if you're a more dynamic
person. It's not like being in NY.

Also sometimes there are little courses offered, but usually they are
enough. You need totell me more and I'll tell you.

Say, if you have an option to study at Harvard, possibly that will
raise the bar higher for you if you go there. Or if you want to be a
hard-core mathematics economist, then you'd be better off studying in
Germany or in a technical university where they give you a hardcore
focus with tens of courses there. The best you can do at maths at AUBG
is take a math major, and that usually prepares you well, ofc, but not
like in a technical uni. There are some who go and do PHDs after AUBG,
so apparently it, as said, gives you a "chance"

Weather / climate is okay... codl in winter, hot in summer. It's in in
the rest of Bulgaria. Don't know what you're used to in Africa I
knew a girl from Zimbabwe. The students are more than 50%
international, I think like 70%, from like 40 countries or so, so you
shouldn't worry too much about integration.

I went to work and travel, it was fine, but I hear it's a harder the
last year. You have a chance, and if you make good of it - you can do
from well to extremely well. Some people have done it, but some have
also been disappointed. It worked out fine for me.

If you want to know more and more opinions from different people,
check the forum - aubg.org, there's lots of things from past threads
that give answers to your Qs from diff. people.

Hey there guys! I'm a freshman and been around here for a month now. I've noticed that the OCC network restricts us from quite a lot of stuff, and apparently Ventrilo's also in that list.

So, I was wondering if anyone here knows what Ventrilo is and if anyone have used it before. I have an issue with Ventrilo and apparently because of OCC I can not connect to any server whatsoever.

Vent is a online communication program similar to Skype/Teamspeak. Does anyone have any problems with it or does anyone know how and what to fix so that I can use it in here ?

Thanks in advance!

I have been thinking about such a thread for a long time now (you know I don't come here often anymore) and I think we need it. Okay, AUBG is good but what happens after AUBG? Are we really needed and where?

What were your dreams and what happened in the end?

Did you imagine your future the way it is now?

Share your opinions.

Since I wrote a long post to Visari47, which provoked me to finally open this topic, I will not write again - I will simply share my opinion here.

"Now comes the tricky part... and I think we need a topic like this and I will create one - PROFESSIONAL REALIZATION after AUBG.

Let me tell you that an AUBG degree does NOT grant you anything after you finish this university. The world is huge and life often depends on pure luck. Of course it matters very much what you majored in:

BUS - it used to be a good major, lots of people found great jobs abroad or in Bulgaria, but it seems to me that this major has devaluated in the past 5-6 years to the point that nowadays you can't really find anything outside Sofia (or abroad) - and even there, given the worldwide financial and economic crisis (which has affected the BG economy badly), you may find it hard to start a good and well paid job. This is what I think and have seen in the past 5-6 years after I finished AUBG.

COS - Bingo!!! There are hundreds of unfilled job openings right now in Bulgaria, demand is very high and pay is excellent. I have a relative that finished COS in Sofia, not at AUBG, and now makes 3000-4000 BGN (1500-2000 EUR) per month and if he works at home in his free time his montly pay goes up to 5 000-6 000-7 000 BGN per month and this is HUGE money for the standard of living here. COS is definitely the best major to study right now - you can easily find a job and like I said it pays big money.

ECO - a good major, tends to discuss theories only and I am not sure of its practicality right now. Perhaps finishing it means hard time finding a job at the moment. Later on in life it MAY become a good choice.

EUR - an OK major for people who are from EU countries, otherwise don't bother. But even for people who are from EU countries, like me, it is hard to find a job and keep it, so think very hard if you want to pursue this major. I would not recommend it now.

History and Civilizations - to me a waste of time and money unless you want to become a museum curator working for 200-300 EUR a month (even this salary seems to be very high to me) or a "treasure hunter", finding and selling illegally historical artefacts which can be easily found in Bulgaria. Treasure hunters get paid very well, I know one guy who's been making tons of cash and even though the police raided his house three years ago and found "stuff" he was not sentenced and sent to jail - in fact he lives happily and keeps on making ... yeah, you guessed it - tons of cash.

Information Systems - I have no idea what this is. It did not exist in my time. But the major is related to computers, so you may find a good job later on, who knows.

Journalism and Mass Communication - related to BUS, no jobs in the province, in the capital you MAY find something, but the quality of the media in BG is very poor. Still you may become a "journalistic prostitute" and get well paid for writing biased articles for this criminal "businessman" or that criminal "politician". Sad but true.

Mathematics - a good major. (Almost) no realization in BG, you may after quite some time become a scientis working for pocket change somewhere.

Political Science and International Relations - don't bother, no realization and a total loss of time and money.

This is how things are (and seem to be) in Bulgaria. It may be different in Serbia or in the West. I don't know.

Now don't get me wrong - all these majors are good enough for you to go to the West (Europe or the USA) and pursue a Master's degree or even Ph.D. - I know such people, but if you do, don't come back here cuz your chances of finding a job will be like 0.5 %.

I live in Bulgaria and share my opinion based on this fact so my information is about Bulgaria only but DO THINK about your plans about the future and the (economic) situation in Serbia and how and whether you will be able to find a job there. Of course this will be in 4-5 years and you can't predict everything but still...

One more (last) thing - currently in Bulgaria the more educated you are, the worse for you. The only people that are really needed and sought are computer scientists, programmers, call center agents with exotic languages and workers."

Now it's your turn!

Hey to everyone from Serbia. First of I would like to state that I am aware of the hate someone can get by making his first post an actuall thread, but I dont know where else to ask. Believe me I looked around.

Now,I turned 16 around 2weeks ago and I think I should start thinking about my future just a little bit more. I dont plan to continue my life in my country so the most logical way out is obviously an American university.

Lets start with the annoying questions :

1. I know the GPA has to be no less 3.0 so you can apply but is calculating your GPA ona 4.0 system do-able when your schools grade system is a 1-5 and not A-F system?
In other words can i calculate it by simply making a for ex. A = 5 = 4points?

2.The diploma you get when finishing school is accepted in the US and the whole Europe, right?

3.Hows the schools wibe?

4.5000$ is the max you have pay?

Once again sorry if this thread is diss-located and sorry for any spelling errors that may have occurred while typing on this stupid touch screen phone keyboard
